GHOST TRICK HISTORY (MAJOR SPOILERS)
SPOILERS FOR GHOST TRICK
Ten years before the events of the game happened, Yomiel was one of the country's top computer software engineers. He was hired to build a system to organize the nation's secrets. However, he soon found that he was being pursued by spies from another nation, and was brought in for questioning when the spies tried to break into his system.
An inspector called Cabanela was in charge of the questioning, and he pressed Yomiel too hard, thinking that he could show off to his coworkers. Then, Cabanela made the mistake of leaving his gun in the interrogation room. Angry and upset over Cabanela's accusations, Yomiel stole the gun and fled to the nearby park. Another detective, Jowd, got wind of his escape and pursued him.
Frightened that the detective would shoot him, Yomiel grabbed a young girl who was playing in the park, declaring her a hostage. But right as Jowd was about to hit the trigger, an unusal event occurred.
A meteorite fell down from the sky and crashed nearby, breaking into tiny fragments. One of these fragment's pierced Yomiel's heart, killing him on the spot.
But Yomiel soon found that he really wasn't dead. Not in the usual sense. When a stray black cat approached his fallen body, he found that he could possess it with his spirit. Later, he made his way back to his own body and left the morgue as if nothing had happened to him.
The meteorite- also called Temsik- apparently gave off radiation that gave ghosts powers that were called "ghost tricks". It also played with time. Yomiel discovered that since the Temsik shard was in his body, he couldn't really die, and he couldn't age, either. Any wound on him would immediately close up, making him effectively immortal. But Yomiel wasn't really alive, nor was he dead. He was stuck somewhere in the middle, a spirit possessing a shell of a body.
After his "death", Yomiel went to see the only person he cared about- his fiancee, Sissel. But when he came, he was too late- she taken her own life, thinking he was dead for good.
So Yomiel started living his life of non-existence with the same black cat he had possessed before, who he called Sissel in tribute to his lost lover. His powers changed- he found that in addition to possessing small animals, he could possess people as well. Not able to deal with his despair and loneliness, he was driven into madness, formulating a plan of revenge that would enable him to make the people who he thought were responsible for his death pay for their deeds.
First, he manipulated a contraption which Detective Jowd's daughter, Kamila, had created for her mother's birthday. By changing it, he made that contraption into an effective murder machine, which killed Kamila's mother. Kamila blamed herself for her mother's death, and Jowd took the blame for her, going to prison. Yomiel was delighted, believing that this was the best way of showing people like Jowd how much suffering he was going through in his "life".
Hungry for more revenge, Yomiel struck a deal with the nation who had broke into his system all those years ago, calling himself Sissel as an alias. By selling himself and his powers, Yomiel would get the distinct pleasure of seeing all the people die who he blamed for the incodent that made him immortal. Also, since the nation was technologically advanced, Yomiel wanted them to make him an artificial life so he could actually live instead of being stuck in his state. To prove he had the powers he claimed, Yomiel told the nation he would make two impossible cases happen.
He first manipulated a young rock star into changing the lyrics of his latest tune into ones that revealed national secrets, even though the rock star had no way of knowing those secrets. Secondly, he made a curry-loving man break into the chief commissioner's office and torch the place, which was a task that this man could never do on his own.
Having proved his powers, Yomiel set on a plan to make the people involved in his death finally pay for what they had done to him. The little girl who he had taken hostage, Lynne, had grown up to be a rookie detective who was investigating Jowd's case, and Yomiel posed as an informant that had information on her case. However, he manipulated her with his powers into shooting him. This was caught on a security tape, and Lynne soon became a wanted suspect for murder. Then, he possessed the body of his black cat, and waited for the chance to repossess his body again.
But Cabanela, who was now the chief of the Special Investigations Unit, saw through this and had Yomiel's body moved to another building, far out of reach. Yomiel eventually located his body and repossessed it, killing Cabanela and a professor who was researching Temsik to wipe out any knowledge of anybody knowing his powers.
He then left to board a submarine called the Yonua, leaving to go to the nation that would offer him a life...
